On SLP48 this week, ISL was privileged to have Assistance Dogs Trust as the live case study for the week.
Assistance Dogs Trust trains dogs to assist individuals and their families, whose lives are impacted by disability. To see more of the amazing work they do visit the website and sponsor the training of a puppy.

Wonderful video and demonstration. Great to see that ISL and ADNZ are able to benefit from each other. Well done Geoff, his team and all of the folks from ADNZ. Warms my heart to see both organizations working together to help NZ leaders be their best.
Thanks Steve.
I learned three leadership lessons from “Lady” (this amazing mobility dog) and Wendy, her trainer.
1. Lady is calm under conditions of chaos and brings calm to their ‘charge’, an autistic child, and his/her family. Likewise, leaders should bring calm to their team(s) under conditions of complexity and uncertainty.
2. The trainers select a particular dog (or wait till the right dog comes along) to align with the needs of the child. They don’t take any dog and start training it. Leaders need to choose the right ‘type’ to suit the role and the team.
3. When training a dog, the trainer gives a tid bit to reinforce and anchor learned behaviours. Leaders should do likewise when they are developing their team members.
Thanks to the participants of SLP48 for developing a strategy for ADNZ and supporting a great community support organisation.
